Art & Design & Performance illusions

When we place ourselves inside art and design our perspective is challenged. How do our brains work to make sense of what seems to be impossible? Like animals we can trick each other, but more for fun and to excite our senses than for survival.  Why is it that you can watch a game of cards and miss the gorilla walking through the room or listen to an audio track and hear something other than what was recorded?  Let’s test our senses.

Natures Tricks

Animals deceive each other in wild for survival to shortcut to an easy meal or find a mate by playing visual, audio and even odour tricks – when is a face not a face and why does it matter?

A bird lays eggs and disguises them so other birds will do the hatching for them, the flytrap that lures flies with food smells, the bird that emits a false alarm to swoop on the food another animal has caught, the octopus that vanishes in front of your eyes to become part of the backdrop.

Let’s see how clever the natural world is at also tricking humans and making magic as well as exploring how humans have learnt to use natures’ tricks in industry and for entertainment.
